The Dr. A. R. "Buddy" Bonnette Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Allen R. "BUDDY" Scholarship was established in 1997 to honor a superior teacher, coach, and distinguished scholar. The scholarship was funded through donations contributed by former students as well as interested alumni and dedicated citizens who knew and respected Coach Buddy Bonnette.

The scholarship award is to be given annually, and is competitive in nature, to selected students who meet the following criteria:

  1. The selected student (s) must be a health and Human Performance major seeking teacher certification and aspiring to be a coach.
  2. The selected student (s) must portray the ideal images, and style exhibited by Coach Bonnette through leadership, citizenship, character, and scholarship. Involvement and participation in extra curricular activities will be given due consideration.
  3. The selected student (s) must possess and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better and meet criteria for admission to teacher candidacy.
  4. The selected student (s) may be married.
  5. The selected student (s) should be in need.
  6. The selected student (s) may be in graduate school within the Health and Human Performance Department.
  7. The award will be issued annually and recipient (s) determined prior to the start of the fall semester.
  8. The award will generally be issued on a "one time only" basis per student and may not be repeated unless extenuating circumstances prevail.
  9. The award is based upon guidelines of non-discrimination, but all criteria must be met for possible inclusion in the selection pool. Additionally, students interested in being considered for the award must submit application, letter of recommendation/nomination, and current resume.
  10. The final review and selection of the recipient (s) will be conducted by the three originators of the scholarships fund raising effort and their designees. Drs. Allen R. and Vera Bonnette may have final approval of the recipient (s).

The selected student (s) will receive an award in the amount of $500.00 per year, $250.00 each and fall and spring semester.

We are honored to be able to assist students through this scholarship award and the student (s) selected should have a feeling of accomplishment.
